Training of the trainers’ course: Preparedness and response to public health events at airports

The 3-day training of the trainers course titled for Preparedness and response to public health will be held from 18th – 20th September in Belgrade, Serbia. The course will start at 08:30am on Wednesday 18 September 2019 and will finish at 14:00 pm on 20 September 2019.

Purpose: The purpose of the training of the trainers’ programme is to increase competence and capacity for managing public health events in air transport including risk assessment, decision-making and crisis communication. The training course will address issues of decision making for implementing evidence based health measures proportionate to the health risks.  

After completing this course, the nominated participant could act as trainers to face-to-face training courses at national level.

Organisers: University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf (UKE)-Institute for Occupational and Maritime Medicine, Germany and the Public Health Agency of Sweden (FOHM), Sweden in collaboration with the University of Thessaly – Laboratory of Hygiene and Epidemiology (UTH), Greece, National Institute of Public Health and the Environment (RIMV), Netherlands.  

Type of training: Training will comprise a blended format, with both e-learning and face-to face components. Methods of face-to-face training will include presentations, case studies, scenarios and a World Café. 

Training resources: Training modules will be based on the WHO Handbook for the Management of Public Health Events in Air Transport.

Participant profile:  Persons working at competent authorities at  country central level (Ministry of Health, National Public Health Institute or other)

AND/OR

Technical/scientific expert representing airport health authorities working at a competent authority at a local level having one or more of the following responsibilities

  • Preparedness planning at a national level or local level for responding to public health events at airports and on aircrafts
  • Decision making for implementation of health measures in case of public health event at airports and on aircrafts
  • Implementation of health measures in case of public health event at airports and on aircrafts
  • Preparedness planning at national level or local level for responding to chemical events at airports and on aircrafts

 

Workshop for chemical threats at Points of Entry

Training venue:  Institute of Public Health of Serbia "Dr Milan Jovanović Batut", Belgrade, Serbia


The half-day 1st workshop for chemicals threats at Points of Entry will be held back-to-back with the training of the trainers’ course in the afternoon of the 20th September 2019.

The purpose of the workshop is to identify gaps, opportunities and raise awareness of best practice for chemicals at all points of entry and improve understanding of existing arrangements in Member States. It will address, at a national level, the plans for preparedness and action for dealing with a chemical incident at all Points of Entry.

Information obtained from the workshop will be used as the basis for developing training materials to be used from countries to train staff on chemical safety and preparedness to chemical incidents at Points of Entry.
